Description

Do you have a park, garden, school, or other venue that would make a great site for an Earth Day project? SCA can help!

This April, SCA is celebrating Earth Day like never before! With national support from Southwest Airlines and American Express, we are aiming to connect our members, alumni, friends, and partners across the country to create a nationwide network of Earth Month celebrations, so anyone can find an opportunity in their region — from large-scale team-based events to “quick-touch” service activities at local community sites!

Events will be added to www.thesca.org/earthday as they are confirmed.

Join us to host 60 Earth Day events for SCA's 60th Birthday!

To qualify for support, events must be approved by SCA staff and meet the following criteria:

  • Event must be FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.***

  • Event must be focused on CONSERVATION SERVICE or ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION (or both!)

  • Event must aim to engage AT LEAST 50 PEOPLE.

  • Event date must fall within APRIL 2018.

  • SCA EARTH DAY SIGNAGE must be displayed at the event.

  • Event host must be willing to provide EVENT PHOTOS, PARTICIPANT COUNT, and CONSERVATION OUTCOMES within 1 week of event date.

*** In some cases, events may be open to a select group of students or community members.

NOTE: We are especially prioritizing locations within 60 minutes of an airport served by SCA's official airline Southwest Airlines, although all other locations will also be considered.

Sample projects and how SCA can help:

Project: Hands-on volunteer service project at a park, garden, or other public space near you.

How SCA can help: For approved projects, SCA will provide branded SCA Earth Day signage for display, SCA t-shirts for volunteers, and up to $500 in event support to help cover tools/supplies/food -- as well as promotion on SCA's national website and social media channels. Plus: a special SCA-branded gift for the event host!

Project: Earth Day-focused community festival or environmental education event.

How SCA can help: For approved projects, SCA will provide branded SCA Earth Day signage for display and up to $500 in event support to help cover tools/supplies/food -- as well as promotion on SCA's national website and social media channels. Plus: a special SCA-branded gift for the event host!

Project: Seed ball table activity.

How SCA can help: Get into the Earth Day spirit in just a few minutes by making a wildflower seed ball to help create habitat for native pollinators! Host this "quick-touch" table activity at your school, office, local park, greenmarket, community festival, or other venue. For approved projects, SCA will send a full seed ball activity kit including soil, clay, wildflower seeds native to your region, signage, table skirt, compostable wipes, and more! SCA will also provide a webinar training covering everything you need to know to host a successful seed ball activity.

Sign up on this page to share your pitch with us! All project pitches will be reviewed by SCA staff and will receive a reply by March 15th.

Contact SCA Events Manager Ann Pedtke at apedtke@thesca.org with ideas or questions on how you can help make this SCA's biggest Earth Day ever. In the meantime, thanks in advance for your support of this opportunity to expand SCA's growing network of alumni, partners, and supporters.
